题干

Wind power is a very clean source of energy. This is how wind power works.Wind makes windmills spin(旋转). When the windmills spin, they make electricity. Then we can use the electricity.

A lot of people think that wind power is new, but thats not true. For thousands of years, people have used wind to sail boats and move water. We still do those things today, but these days we mostly use wind power to make electricity.

Wind power is a very popular source of energy. Most people think that we should use it more and more. First of all, it's clean. Windmills don't pollute the environment at all. Second,we can use wind power forever. After all, we will always have wind. Also, wind power is cheap, and it's getting even cheaper.

A lot of people don't understand wind power very well. They believe that there are problems with wind power, but many of those problems are not real. For example, some people say that windmills are dangerous for birds. It used to be true, but it isn't true anymore. Old windmills killed birds because they spun very fast. New windmills spin slowly. and they aren't dangerous for birds.

However, there are real problems with windmills. One problem is that many people think windmills are very ugly. This is a problem for people, because windmills are often in very pretty areas. Also. wind doesn't blow all the time, so we can't use wind power all the time. Finally. windmills are noisy.

Wind power is becoming more and more common.Right now, more than 80 countries use wind power. About 2.5 percent of the world's power comes from the wind. For some countries, that number is a lot higher. Wind power gives Denmark more than 25 percent of its electricity.

题目42

题干

When a rare disease ALD threatened to kill the four-year-old boy Lorenzo, his parents refused to give up hope. Doctors explained that there was no cure for ALD, and that he would probably die within three years. But Lorenzos parents set out to prove the doctors wrong.

The parents devoted themselves to keeping their son alive and searching for a cure. But doctors and the families of other ALD patients often refused to take them seriously. They thought the efforts to find a cure were a waste of time, and drug companies werent interested in supporting research into such a rare disease.

However, the parents still refused to give up and spent every available hour in medical libraries and talking to anyone who would help. Through trial and error (反复试验), they finally created a cure from ingredients (调料) commonly found in the kitchen. The cure, named Lorenzos Oil, saved the boys life. Despite the good results, scientists and doctors remained unconvinced. They said there was no real evidence that the oil worked and that the treatment was just a theory. 题干

A few centuries ago, people looked at the birds and wondered what it would be like to fly like them. There were stories of heroes who glued bird feathers on their arms and flew up into the sky. About 500 years agosome people dreamed a different dream. Instead of flying up to the sky, they dreamed of falling from the sky!

In the 15th century, Italian inventors designed a cone-shaped(锥形) device that was supposed to bring a man down safely from a great height. The operator held on to a handle with straps strapped to his waist. This was the first known design for a parachute.

Even the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci sketched a type of parachute. His parachute design was in the shape of pyramid(金字塔). Other inventors also sketched their own designs for a parachute. Unfortunately, these were only designs on paper and no one tested them.

A Croatian inventor named Fausto Veranzio looked at Leonardo da Vincis parachute design and replaced the pyramid shape with one that looked like a sail from a ship. When Veranzio was 65 years old, he fell ill. Thinking he would not live longer, he decided to try out his parachute invention. He built his parachute using wood and cloth. Strapping his invention to his waist, he jumped off the tall bell tower in his city. He landed safely! He was supposedly the first man to successfully use a parachute. However, some other people thought this story was not true. If that was the case, then the first person to successfully use a parachute would go to a Frenchman named Louis-Sehastien Lenormand in 1783.
