C-16C-20阅读Passage One。短文后有5个问题,请从ABCD四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。

                                                                        Passage One

When you tidy your messy bedroom, it gets a lot easier to find things. Dreams may work the same way for a messy brain, helping you learn by organizing memories and ideas.

To test how much dreams can help learning, Robert Stick had some students play a shapefitting game called Tetris (俄罗斯方块) for a few hours and then go to sleep. Soon they were dreaming of falling Tetris shapes. Interestingly, the worst Tetris players had the most Tetris dreams and improved their game the most. Similar tests have shown the same results for all kinds of skills.

As we dream, many important tasks are getting done. The brain decides what to keep and what to forget. It is connecting new experiences to older learning. In fact, the brain is learning all night long.

Another important task of dreams may be to help us deal with emotions (情绪). At night, emotions are in the drivers seat. People who have had an upsetting experience often dream about it afterward. Often the dream event changes somehowanother way the brain tries to make the memory less upset. So if your best friend moves away, you might dream that youre the one whos moving. In fact, dreams have a proven power to improve mood, and people who dream about whats bothering them usually feel better sooner than those who dont.

Everybody dreams for a couple of hours every nightin the course of your life, youll spend about 25 years asleep and 6 years dreaming. Theres probably no single answer to the question why we dream, but there doesnt have to be. One dream might help you remember your math facts, while another might lead to a new invention, or give you a fun, crazy story to tell your friends. Its all in a nights work for our busy, mysterious brains.www.lixiti.com

                                                         Passage Two

At first glance, there is little in Horton to attract people. The other nearby towns have much more to offer: Bradfield has its river and historic buildings, while Newtown has shops and entertainment. The buildings of Horton look dirty and unloved. For shops, there is a small supermarket, a few bargain shops, a bakery which, strangely, does not sell bread and a florist which has one stand of sadlooking flowers. Even so, Horton has several advantages over its neighboring towns.

Firstly, it has a country park. Four thousand years ago, this was an important fort. There are no historic remains here now, but there are wonderful views over the countryside. On sunny weekends you can often see kids out with their parents, kicking balls or flying kites.

There arent many job opportunities in Horton, and the roads to nearby cities arent really fast, but there are excellent rail links. You can be in London in an hour and a half, and other cities are less than an hour away. That means that parents can earn a good salary and still get home in time to spend the evenings with their families. Houses in Horton arent pretty, but theyre functional and cheap. The streets are quiet and safe, and there are plenty of parks and playgrounds. It has a library, three primary schools and a secondary school, St.Marks. It is friendly and offers a wide range of subjects and activities to children of all abilities and backgrounds. The town also has a swimming and a sports centre, and the community halls hold regular clubs and events for people of all ages.

C-21. What is the writers main purpose?

ATo explain what tourists can do in Horton.

BTo explain why Horton is a good place to live in.

CTo explain why Horton is not as pleasant as other towns.

DTo describe the history of Horton.

阅读Passage Three,回答C-25C-27三个问题。请从ABCD四个选项中选出可以填入题干空白处的最佳选项。

                                                                  Passage Three

There are two major parties in Britain today, the Conservative Party and the Labor Party, which have been in power by turns since 1945.The twoparty system of Britain was formed in the course of the development of the capitalist state and the political parties. In order to strengthen the state machine, the British bourgeosie have let it come into being and exist in one form or another form since the 17th century. P.S. Tregidgo once said:The more parties there are, the less likely it is that any one of them will be strong enough in Parliament to outvote all the others; but when there are only two, one of them is sure to have a majority of seats. This helps to ensure a strong and stable government. This may be the reason why the British have the two party system.

The division into two parties grew out the establishment of a Protestant Church of England in the 16th century. Because of a purely religious difference of opinion, the Puritans were separated from the broad body of the Anglican Church. The non Puritan Anglicans were on the side of the King and Church, and their supporters were called by their opponents Tories. The Puritans were for Parliament and trade, and their supporters were called by the Tories”“Whigs. The Tories and the Whigs were in power by turns for a long time. In 1833,the Tory party split into two and its name was changed to Conservative. In the 1860s the Whigs became Liberals. From that time on, the Liberals and the Conservatives were in office by turns until 1922.The policies they put into effect were sometimes different, but they were both controlled by the rich.

The working class became more and more unwilling to follow the Conservatives and the Liberals. They wanted to have their own party. So the Labor party was formed by the trade unions. After 1922 the Labor Party gradually replaced the Liberal Party to become one of the two major parties in Great Britain.

C-25.What does itstand for  in Para 1 with underline?

AThe two party system.

BThe state machine.

阅读Passage Four,回答C-28C-30三个问题。请从ABCD四个选项中选出可以填入题干空白处的最佳选项。

                                                                   Passage Four

If you want to see a thing well, reach out and touch it!

That may seem a strange thing to say. But touching things can help you to see them better.

Your eyes can tell you that glass ball is round. But by holding it in your hands, you can feel how smooth and cool the ball is. You can feel how heavy the glass is.

When you feel all these about the ball, you really see it.

With your skin, you can feel better. For example, your fingers can tell the difference between two coins in your pocket. You can feel a little drop of water on the back of your hand, too.

You can even feel sounds against your skin. Have you ever wanted to know why some people like very loud music? They must like to feel the sounds of music.

All children soon learn what Dont touch!”  means. They hear it often. Yet most of us keep on touching things as we grow up. In shops, we touch things we might buy, such as food, clothes and so on. To see something well, we have to touch it.

The bottoms of our feet can feel things, too. You know this when you walk on warm sand, cool grass or a bad floor. All feel different under your feet.

There are ways of learning to see well by feeling.

One way is to close your eyes and try to feel everything that is touching your skin. Feel the shoes on your feet, the clothes on your body, the air on your skin. At first, it is not easy to feel these things. You are too used to them!

Most museums are just for looking. But today some museums have some things to touch. Their signs say, Do touch! There you can feel everything on show. If you want to see better, reach out and touch. Then youll really see!

C-28. By touching things _____.

Ayou will have a strange feeling

Byou will learn how to reach out

Cyou can tell the difference between them
